Village Council VII of Serchhip Town today handed over a brand new Maruti  Eeco Van modified as an Ambulance to the authorities of Serchhip District Hospital for the use on COVID-19 matters and other related purposes.


A brief function was held at Chief Medical Officer's Conference Hall chaired by Dr. Laldawngliana Sailo, CMO to mark the occasion. Pu H. Lalthianghlima, President ,Village Council VII gave a detailed report on how they managed funds from various sources and the modalities for the purchase of the ambulance. He pointed that small savings from various developmental projects undertaken by the Village Council was accrued and in addition villagers also donated some amount for the purpose. The savings amount was initially earmarked for construction of five houses for the poor families in their area. Two such houses had been already constructed, he added. He remarked that an ambulance was much needed by the Hospital for COVID-19 duties and it was then that the Village Council decided to use the funds for construction of the three remaining houses to procure the ambulance.

 

 The procurement of the Ambulance was done in consultation with the Hospital authorities and the Health Minister was also informed about the decision of the Village Council to donate the ambulance.  He then handed over the keys of the Ambulance to Dr. Laldawngliana Sailo, CMO and Dr. ZD. Lalmuanawma, District Medical Superintendent.


Dr. ZD Lalmuanawma, Medical Superintendent expressed his gratitude to the donors and also highlighted that the ambulance would further strengthen the Hospital’s infrastructure needs and its reach.


Village Council VII is a village council covering AOC locality and Chanmary locality within Serchhip town.
