Blood Bank Lunglei, Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD Lunglei) & MSACS Mizoram jointly organized a mass voluntary blood donation programme today  in honor of Valentines’ Day, 2021. The inauguration was held at Lunglei Civil Hospital under the theme “Show Love, Give Blood.” Dr SR Ngurchamliana, Medical Superintendent & President, AVBD Lunglei graved the ocassion as Chief Guest

Speaking on the occasion, Dr SR Ngurchamliana complimented MSACS & AVBD Lunglei for organizing the event, and thanked them for their various initiatives to encourage more people to donate blood to save lives. Lauding the voluntary spirit of Mizo people, he stated that it is indeed a matter of great pride for the State that the cause of blood donation has been strongly taken up by the Government, educational institutes, Churches and various NGOs. Stating that donating blood does not have health repercussions for healthy individuals aged 18 to 60, he urged those present to educate others on the importance of blood donation.

The program was chaired by Pu Lalrammuana Chawngthu, Vice President, AVBD Lunglei. Pu H. Lalthangliana, Secretary, AVBD Lunglei also gave a brief report on important initiatives taken up by AVBD.

In honor of the day, members of Zohnuai East Unit TKP Lunglei have agreed to donate blood. Students of Lunglei Government College and Government J Buana College have also been invited to donate blood at Civil Hospital Blood Bank and Christian Hospital Serkawn Blood Bank.

Presently, there are two blood banks in Lunglei District – one each at Civil Hospital Lunglei and Christian Hospital Serkawn. As a result of intense awareness campaigns & cooperation among the State Government, AVBD, MSACS, NGOs, Churches and educational institutions etc, citizens of Mizoram are highly aware of and sensitive to the importance of donating blood. Blood donation camps are held regularly in various parts of the State as Church based, NGO based, institution based events and many individuals also come forward at their own initiative. In the year 2019, Lunglei Civil Hospital Blood Bank received 2597 units of blood, out of which 2303 (88.67%) units were voluntary. In the same year, Christian Hospital Serkawn Blood Bank received 1271 units of blood, of which 1170 (92.05%) units were voluntary. In the year 2020, Lunglei Civil Hospital Blood Bank received 2412 units of blood, out of which 2298 (95.27%) units were voluntary. In the same year, Christian Hospital Serkawn Blood Bank received 1010 units of blood, of which 976 (96.63%) units were voluntary.
