Aizawl, the 15th March 2021 : World Consumer Rights Day was observed in Aizawl today at a function held at the CYMA Hall, Tuikhuahtlang which was graced by Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Pu K. Lalrinliana.
Speaking on the occassion the Minister remarked that in the interests and in protecting the rights of consumers it is easy to invite the ire of others. He added that such steps are not taken because of personal misunderstandings but to safeguard the rights of consumers as per the Consumer Protection Act. He said that the Department and Mizoram Consumers' Union have a good working relationship which has yielded good results in consumer rights and awareness. The Minister mentioned that legal metrology section plays an important role in protecting consumers against incorrect weights and measures. Taking about this year's theme 'Tackling Plastic Pollution', he said plastic waste is an enemy of the environment and of mankind. He reiterated steps to check plastic pollution at various levels.
The Minister presented Awards to Serchhip District which was adjudged as the best District Consumer Association and to Aizawl District which was adjudged the best District in Consumer Disputes Redressals. He also distributed prizes to winners of the Documentary Competition and the Short Video Clip Competition on Consumer Awareness.
Pu Vanlalngaihsaka, Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs who chaired the function highlighted the origin of the Day and dwelt on the need for increased awareness by consumer of their rights. Pi Ramdinliani, Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs and Dr. Lalhriatzuali Ralte, Aizawl DC also spoke on the occasion.
